Based on the George Moore novel of the same title, Esther Waters is a Victorian lady who is abandoned by her lover when pregnant. Despite the social stigma of being a fallen woman she chooses to raise the child as a single mother.

E4 Part 4: The Favourite Wins 1964-12-05 · 45 min Esther and William, happily running the King's Head, take in Margaret Gale, Esther's old friend, now forced to prostitution. Betting in the pub has brought Fred Parsons to threaten their peace with the law.
