Privacy policy

Short version: we collect as little as we can, we never sell it, and you can ask us to delete it at any time.

Who we are

EscapePod (escapepod.vip) is run by Krasimir Borisov. For anything about your data, email [email protected].

What we collect

  • Your account, if you create one: a username, an email address and your password. The password is stored only as a secure one-way hash, so nobody, including us, can read it.
  • What you save and do while signed in: stations in your lineup, podcasts you follow, books on your shelf and where you stopped reading, your TV watchlist, forum posts, and puzzle progress, so they follow you to any device.
  • A sign-in cookie that keeps you signed in. It is strictly necessary for accounts to work and is not used for anything else.
  • Server logs: like every website, our server briefly records technical details of requests (such as IP address, browser type and the page asked for) to keep the site running and to stop abuse, such as repeated failed sign-ins.

We don't ask for your real name, address, phone number or any payment details. EscapePod is free.

What stays on your device

Settings like your reader theme, where you are in a podcast episode and puzzle progress (when you're not signed in) are kept in your own browser's storage. They never leave your device unless you are signed in and they are part of the account features above.

Content from other services

EscapePod shows content that comes straight from other services. When your browser loads it, that service can see your IP address, as with any website:

  • Radio streams play directly from each radio station's own server; station listings come from radio-browser.info.
  • Podcast artwork and episodes load from each podcast's host; charts and search come from Apple.
  • TV listings and images come from TVmaze.
  • Book and magazine texts and covers come from Project Gutenberg.
  • News, Today and the picture of the day come from Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons.
  • Live radio in some formats uses a small player library loaded from the jsDelivr network.

Advertising

EscapePod is paid for by advertising. Before any ads appear, this policy will be updated to name the advertising partners and what they collect, and visitors in the UK and EU will be asked for their consent where the law requires it.

Who we share data with

We don't sell or rent your information. It is processed only by the companies that host and protect the site: Hetzner Online (servers in the EU) and Cloudflare (security and delivery). We will disclose information only if the law requires it.

How long we keep it

Account data is kept until you delete your account or ask us to. Server logs and backups are kept for a short time (backups for 14 days) and then removed automatically.

Your rights

You can ask to see the data we hold about you, correct it, get a copy, or have your account and everything linked to it deleted. Email [email protected] from the address on your account and we'll handle it within 30 days. If you're in the UK or EU, you can also complain to your data protection authority.

Children

EscapePod is a general audience site. Accounts and the forum are not meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has created an account, let us know and we'll remove it.

Security

The site is served over an encrypted connection, passwords are hashed, and all input is checked before it is used. No system is perfect, so if you spot a problem, please tell us.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top will change too. Big changes will also be announced on the site.
